Indonesia revises coal and mineral mining regulations
Indonesia's Jakarta Post reported on May 13 that while the Indonesian government was trying to deal with the covid-19 virus crisis, despite strong protests from civil society organizations, legislators passed a controversial amendment to the 2009 coal and mineral mining law. The new mining law aims to develop downstream mining in Indonesia and improve economic growth. It will allow mining miners to extend their licenses through simpler and centralized administrative procedures. The Act amended 82% of the 175 articles of the original mining law and added two chapters.
